As Ruthie was getting ready to meet someone at a local coffee shop, she felt impressed by the Holy Spirit to take one of my To Kill a Lion books with her. Okay, so here she is, a woman, knowing that she is supposed to give one of my books away, and has no clue to whom. Two tables away from Ruthie and her friend were two guys talking away. She wondered if one of these guys was the one she was to give the book to. As time went on, she discerned that she was to give the book to one of them, but she decided to wait until they were ready to leave.
They got up and walked outside and Ruthie went behind them. Suddenly one of the guys turned and headed to the restroom. Ruthie then approached the other guy and said, “I am supposed to give you this book. I don’t know why, but you can do with it as you wish.”
Now get this, there was no indication that this guy was a believer. He took the book and said a nice thank you and then exited.
Case closed? Not yet!
Less than one week later we were with a group of couples from our church. One of the men got Ruthie’s and my attention and told this story to our group, “I have a great story about your book. I was with a pastor who is a friend of mine in ________ (somewhere not close to home!) A week or so ago he was counseling a guy in his church who is struggling with purity issues. The day following he was in a coffee shop with a friend and some lady he never saw before came up to him and gave him the book that your pastor wrote!”
About now Ruthie and I were freakin’ out. We told “the rest of the story” to all the couples—that the woman was Ruthie, and how she had come to bring the book to the coffee shop.
It was one miracle/act of God to guide Ruthie to give the book away, and who to give it to, but the second miracle was that within one week, in this big, big, world, God directed the testimony back to affirm Ruthie’s act of obedience! Praise the Lord!
